Organ recital at Bridlington Priory with Paul Hale, Southwell Minster.

Paul Hale was Cathedral Organist and Rector Chori at Southwell Minster for twenty seven years and appointed Organist Emeritus following his retirement. He was previously Assistant Organist of Rochester Cathedral, Organist of Tonbridge School and Organ Scholar of New College, Oxford. He is Diocesan Organ Adviser toSouthwell and Lincoln dioceses, conductor of the Nottingham Bach Choir and examiner for the Royal College of Organists. He was editor, consultant and author for the New Grove Dictionary of Music. Highly regarded internationally as a recitalist, Paul is also in national demand as an organ consultant having been responsible for several cathedral organ rebuilds including our own Priory organ in 2006. He gives lectures and recitals throughout the world in many prestigious venues and in 2017 he was presented with the Thomas Cranmer Award by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Organ recital at Bridlington Priory with John Scott Whiteley, York Minster.

John Scott Whiteley is Organist Emeritus of York Minster and well known for his performances of the complete organ works of Bach on BBC television. He studied with Ralph Downes at the Royal College of Music and with Fernando Germani and Flor Peeters, winning first prize in the 1976 National Organ Competition of Great Britain. He has given recitals in many prestigious venues and participated in numerous international festivals. This year he will perform the première of a new organ work by Sir James MacMillan at the Three Choirs Festival. He has no less than 52 CD recordings to his credit and a growing number of DVDs. As a composer he has completed some 25 organ works and 17 church compositions. He is a Visiting Research Fellow at Huddersfield University, Editor of the Journal of The British Institute of Organ Studies and an examiner for the RCO. John has been elected to the Freedom of both the Worshipful Company of Musicians and The City of London.

Organ recital at Bridlington Priory with Peter King, Bath Abbey.

Peter King was Director of Music at Bath Abbey from 1986-2016 and where he is now Organist Emeritus. In 1997
he established a girls’ choir which quickly became one of the finest in the country. Described as ‘a virtuoso of world class’ he has an extensive and highly rated discography and his recording of the Poulenc Organ Concerto was described by the BBC Music Magazine and Gramophone as ‘a disc of real distinction’ and ‘filled with a love of making music.’ Peter was Chorus Director of the CBSO under Sir Simon Rattle and still plays the organ with the orchestra. He is a recitalist of international repute with a busy schedule of concerts in the UK and beyond. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Bath and is a past president of the IAO.

Organ recital at Bridlington Priory with Gordon Stewart, International Concert Organist.

Gordon Stewart was born in Scotland and studied at the Royal Manchester College of Music and the Geneva Conservatoire gaining a Performer’s Diploma with distinction in Manchester and a Premier Prix de Virtuosité in Geneva. A former Organist of Manchester and Blackburn Cathedrals, for twenty years he performed frequently on BBC radio and television and was one of the regular conductors for Songs of Praise. Gordon has played concerts in all the major venues in the UK and throughout Europe, the USA, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. He currently teaches the organ at Cambridge University where his students include the organ scholars of King’s, St John’s and Jesus Colleges. For the past 25 years he has been Borough Organist of Kirklees where he performs regular concerts on the famous Huddersfield Town Hall organ. He has received numerous honours, not least an honorary doctorate from the town’s university.

Organ recital at Bridlington Priory with Daniel Cook, Durham Cathedral.

Daniel Cook is Master of the Choristers and Organist of Durham Cathedral where he began his music education before spending a year as Organ Scholar at Worcester Cathedral. From there he took up a place at the Royal Academy of Music studying under a number of leading organists. He graduated with first class honours and, whilst still a student, was appointed Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey. Twice a finalist in the St Albans Organ Competition, he has given recitals in many European countries and most of the cathedrals in Britain. His numerous recordings include the complete works of Brewer, Stanford, Sumsion, Dyson, Alcock and Harris. He is well known as a conductor and accompanist and in November 2011 was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at St David’s Cathedral. In 2013 he became the Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey where for four years he was the choir’s principal accompanist and Assistant Director of Music to James O’Donnell, taking up his present post in 2017.

Professor Ian Tracey has had a life-long association with Liverpool Cathedral becoming the youngest cathedral organist in the country in 1980. After 27 years in post the Dean and Chapter created the post of Organist Titulaire allowing him the freedom to devote more time to playing, lecturing, recording and writing. He has played in most of the major venues here and throughout the world. Past seasons have included concerts in New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Bermuda and several European countries. He is a frequent broadcaster on the BBC and his recordings for EMI, Chandos, and Priory on the cathedral organ have met with wide critical acclaim. He holds Fellowships from eighteen prestigious musical institutions here and abroad and in 2006 Liverpool University conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Music. He is Professor, Fellow and Organist of Liverpool John Moores University and Organist to the City of Liverpool.
